Description
Flame polishing units use electrolyte fluid to generate gas which fuels a flame at the end of a fine nozzle. When the flame comes into contact with a rough thermoplastic surface, it fuses the surface faces together, producing a polished edge.
The gas is produced by electricity breaking water down into Oxygen and Hydrogen. These are then mixed in an atomiser with a combustible gas such as Methanol, Acetone or MEK, which determines certain flame characteristics, such as its shape and temperature (see the table below).
Finally the mixture is delivered to one or more torches fitted with appropriate nozzles from 16 to 30 (a number 16 tip is 1.10 mmø whilst a number 30 is 0.15 mmø). The size of flame required determines which tip is fitted.
